モリシップランの万葉集英訳

VOLUME-3
☆Yamanoue-no Okura’s poem:

憶良らは
 今は罷らむ
  子泣くらむ
そのかの母も
 吾を待つらむそ
(山上憶良 巻3-337)

Okura raha
 Imaha Makaramu
  Ko nakuramu
Sono kano hahamo
 A-wo matsuramuso

This humble Okura
May excuse himself an’ go
Straight home as a Pa,
For the boy may be crying,
For his Ma may be waiting…
(Vol.3-337)

Unlike many other poets in this age, Okura sings often about family ties and empathy to the ordinary people, rather than poems praising Emperors and praying for the prosperity of the Imperial Court.
This poem may give readers a sense of relief and a warm sentiment, plus a chuckle.
