立ちても居ても
 我が思へる君

Around the far cape,
Rocky shores negotiate
Rough waves after waves.
Whether tides swell or deflate,
They’d ne’er quell my thought of you!
(Vol.4-568)

This is one of several poems in a series dubbed “Songs to bid farewell to Ootomo-no Tabito”. Tabito had been assigned as the Commander of Dazaifu Frontier Government (now Dazaifu City, Fukuoka Pref.), and was called back to Capital Yamato (Nara Pref., now) in promotion to the job of Dainagon (Chief Councilor) in the year 730, and officials at Dazaifu Government Office held a banquet to bid farewell to him, and presented farewell poems.
