Mt. Takamato –
With aroma of mushrooms,
Drifting up to top,
Filling the air in the autumn night.
Fluffy caps sway in the moon.

Mt. Takamato is situated in the south-eastern part of Nara Pref. and written in Kanji (Chinese characters) as 「高円」（meaning High Moon?）. But in this poem, it is written in another way as 「高松」（meaning High Pine Tree）. In these times, they were almost homophones (one same pronunciation for two words), and the poet obviously wanted to write in his/her way (High Pine Trees), as the mountain had good tall pine trees.
Mushrooms are delicacies in autumn for Japanese people, and it was already so in the 8th century, as it seems.
