モリシップランの万葉集英訳

VOLUME-8
☆Kose Asomi Sukunamaro’s poem:

我がやどの
 冬木の上に
  降る雪を
梅の花かと
 うち見つるかも
 (巨勢朝臣宿奈麻呂 巻8-1645)

Waga-yadono
 Fuyukino ueni
  Furu yukiwo
Umeno hanakato
 Uchi Mitsuru kamo

Withered wintry boughs,
In our desolate orchard,
Turned pretty and white,
Looking like new plum blossoms –
T’was snow fallen in the night!
(Vol.8-1645)

Here again, a contrast, or at least combination of two different elements (seasons, in case of this song) are displayed. One (winter) is represented by snow, and the other (spring – or an advent of it) by plum blossoms. A frequent method of Man-Yoh-Shuh poetry in general.
