VOLUME-4
☆Fujiwara-no Maro’s poem:
むしぶすま
柔やが下に
臥せれども
妹とし寝ねば
肌し寒しも
(藤原麻呂 巻4-524)
Mushibusuma
Nagoyaga shitani
Fuseredomo
Imoto shineneba
Hadashi samushimo
E’en warm and tender
Coverlets I may lie under,
I can’t go to sleep ―
I have you not beside me,
And feel so chilly on my skin!
(Vol.4-524)
The singer here is one of scions of the powerful Fujiwara Family, and is said to have had a relation of the “commuting marriage” with Sakanoue-no Iratsume, a lady from another influential family, Ootomo Family, and an aunt of Ootomo-no Yakamochi. Maro had several wives and Sakanoue married several different men over time. So were the love and marriage landscapes in those days, it looks like!
