We had a heavy snow here,
Over in my home area –
So, in your stale end,
It’ll be only much later,
That you see a flake descend!
(Vol.2-103)

This is a piece of poem Emperor Tenmu made and got sent to his wife, Fujiwara-no Bunin (she was a daughter of the then-powerful Fujiwara Family clan), when she was away from his (their) mansion for a respite. He is teasing her as the snow fell (a snow-fall in that time was regarded as a lucky omen and a privilege) only upon his area, and any (if any) snow will only come afterwards upon the area she stayed in. Actually where she stayed at that time was only a mile away at Ohara, a nice quiet place, and yet he was making fun and suggesting that he would like her back soon.
