Let’s sing Japanese songs in English –October 2017
This month’s song is “Wine-red Colored Heart of Yours”

This month’s song is “Wine-red Colored Heart of Yours”, composed by Koji Tamaki, an overwhelmingly popular singer-songwriter, popular in Japan as well as in Asia, and the lyrics written by Yosui Inoue, again an immensely talented singer-songwriter. So, this song, originally named in Japanese, “Wine-red no Kokoro”, must be placed as a rare master piece of work, a joint work by the two of the greatest popular musicians of Japan. I wanted the song known more in Asia as well as in Europe and in U.S., by offering the atmospheric translation of the original lyrics. I hope I succeeded in it to a certain extent.

“Wine-Red Colored Heart of Yours”

  • Music composed by Koji Tamaki
  • Lyrics written by Yosui Inoue
  • English lyrics written by Hidekazu Morishima

Why not sing free as a bird in love?
Why not play hide-and-seek as a dove?
Rather than you just sit alone, ruminating over memories?
Once you shed your fragility,
(*ref.)
You’ll be in love, more than ever, more than you’ve been through.
Those starry eyes of yours and those china-white bare arms of yours,
I say, that wine-red colored heart of yours is clear yet fiery.
You’ll be in love again, and your dream will come true – so quietly…

When at all did I hold you close last time?
When at all will we ever part this time?
Rather than you just drink and cry, ruing again over a long-lost love,
Once you shed your docility,
*You’ll be in love, find a true love, and a day of joy will come.
Your dark and flowing hair and your slender silhouette so sweet,
I say, that wine-red colored heart of yours is clear yet fiery.
You’ll be in love again, and your dream will come true – so suddenly…
